Artist Bio – Tatyana

A little about Tatyana..

Born in Ukraine, during the Soviet Union, Tatyana and her mother came to America as refugees. “Growing up I always felt like I had one foot in Ukraine, and one foot in the United States.” The influence of the two different cultures and languages brought a unique perspective of life and its meaning to Tatyana’s young mind. Creative since she was a child, these talents were not necessarily associated with an option for a career. Often, family members would extinguish the idea that being an artist was a good choice, and a path in life that would bring prosperity.

Tatyana still explored many varieties of art in her formative years as well as into her 20s as she was the first person in her entire family who had the opportunity to go to college. Graphic Design, photography and pencil portraits gave her a good baseline to find work and make it a career path. One of the larger pieces of art that she had the opportunity to participate in is a large mural that hangs on permanent display at the Corbet Theatre at the Centralia college. It is a dedication to Merce Cunningham, and world famous dance instructor. In her early 20s, Tatyana shifted her focus to bodywork, and for 15 years – practiced Structural Integration – a form of bodywork that realigns posture. She spent these years working with people who have been through physical traumas, and her mind remained creative in the world of therapy, and finding solutions in the form of hands on therapy. Photography, still remained a passion, as did pencil art. In 2021, Tatyana returned to Centralia College and obtained a bachelors degree in Behavioral Health Therapy, and saw the benefits of art – as a healing tool that can be used to help patients heal from their own trauma.

“Art – in all its forms, is a lens to how one sees the world. It is passion, and depression, and all the feelings one can feel throughout the span of their lifetime!” – says Tatyana when asked to describe what art means to her.

Tatyana currently resides in Centralia Wa, where she works on her art out of a studio downtown Chehalis.
